Charlamagne Tha God and Stephen Colbert to launch late night show on Comedy Central

Charlamagne Tha Dieu, co-host of the popular morning radio show “The Breakfast Club”, brings his unique brand of comedy and social commentary to late-night television.

The new TV show was co-created by CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.

“Tha God’s Honest Truth with Lenard ‘Charlamagne’ McKelvey” will debut on Comedy Central on Friday nights starting September 17th.

The show brings Colbert back to Comedy Central for the first time since “The Colbert Report,” a satirical rendition of personality-driven political shows, ended its 11 seasons in 2014.

This week, Colbert announced a return to the network, also owned by CBS parent company ViacomCBS.

“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” airs weekday evenings on CBS.

Charlamagne and Colbert, both from South Carolina, said they were linked by their mutual background. Colbert’s brother was also a teacher at the college in Charlamagne.

Charlamagne has appeared on Colbert’s “Late Show” seven times since 2016, and the two have developed a friendship over the years which culminated in their first commercial venture. “Tha God’s Honest Truth” will be produced by Aaron McGruder, creator of “The Boondocks”, a comic book and show on Cartoon Network, which takes a satirical look at politics, pop culture and the socio-economic status of the community black.

“Tha God’s Honest Truth” is the latest deal in a growing media empire for Charlamagne.

Charlamagne gained national attention as the sidekick of radio personality Wendy Williams. He is best known as the co-host of “The Breakfast Club” based on Power 105.1 FM in New York City.
