Charles Leclerc says that he has questioned the decision of the Ferrari Formula 1 team not to send him back in the final minutes of the Monaco Grand Prix Q1, before his surprise exit.

The Monegasque driver was eliminated from qualifying for his home match by a series of recent rival rider upgrades, culminating in his teammate Sebastian Vettel who propelled him to 16th place.

Leclerc was unable to respond because Ferrari chose to keep him in the pits in the final minutes, which he said did not understand.

"I asked them if they were safe [of making Q2]they said "we think we are," said Leclerc to Sky.

"I said we should not go out and go out again?" But there were no real answers.

"I have not yet detailed explanations, a very difficult one to take."

Although Leclerc lost some time during the session by missing a call on a weighbridge, which required him to be removed for the controls, he insisted that this was not a factor for miss the niche to get back on track.

"In fact, we had a lot of time, even when we came out of the box to go out again," he said.

"The weighbridge was not the problem.

"We still had the fuel to go and change only the tires.

"I need explanations, I do not know for the moment."

Leclerc said that from 16th on the grid, his only option if the situation remained dry on Sunday would be to adopt an aggressive approach.

Asked about his hopes for the race, he said: "I hope it's going to rain and that there will be some lottery. If it's dry, it'll be boring." .

"I think I'll have to take a lot of risks, even risk breaking down.

"But in the end, that's the only thing we have to do now: be extreme in our overtaking because it's a track where it's almost impossible to overtake."
