Charlize Theron says her kids think she’s cool is a ‘feeling no Oscar can replace’

Although Charlize Theron has received various awards throughout her career, she finds impressing her children more rewarding than rave reviews.

When asked to play the role of Morticia in The Addams Family 2, the actress said her daughters Jackson, nine, and August, six, were “quite shocked” by their mother’s latest role.

“As a mom who like all moms wants her kids to think she’s cool, it’s a feeling that no Oscar can replace,” she told the Mirror.

Speaking of the animated film, the Bombshell star said she adores the “relationship between” the spooky and iconic Addams Family.

“We need to find kindness and understanding for others who might not look like us or speak like us. Being a part of something like that and knowing that families will see that it really resonates with me, ”said the Oscar winner.

She hopes the films will grab audiences “somewhere in their hearts and make them think a little differently about things.”

Theron also revealed that she had “always made sure [her children] know exactly who we were as a family ”and what their values ​​are.

“Kindness and treating others the way you want to be treated is the way through life,” the artist said.

Charlize adopted her eldest, Jackson, in 2012, then her youngest, August, in 2015.

Speaking about her children to MailOnline in 2019, Charlize said: “I have two beautiful daughters who like any parent I want to protect and I want to see them blossom.

“They were born who they are and exactly where in the world they both end up growing up, and who they want to be is not for me to decide.

“My job as a parent is to celebrate them, love them and make sure they have everything they need to be who they want to be.

“And I will do everything in my power to ensure that my children have this right and are protected within this framework.”

Speaking to Elle in 2018 about how she became a mother, Charlize admitted, “I struggled mentally throughout the adoption process.

“Some of my lowest points in my life were about the first time I filed a case; it really had an emotional impact. There were so many situations that didn’t work out, and you got attached and had all your hopes, and then you were crushed.

Charlize, who said she had a “strong need to be a mom,” admits she couldn’t have done it without her mother Gerda, who she says is co-parenting with her.

She said: “I knew my mom would have to help me if I had to do it as a single parent. Not to admit that she is the co-parent of my children would be a lie.
