An hour-long chase with the driver of a stolen Dallas fire ambulance ended Monday afternoon when the ambulance appeared to get stuck and the driver attempted to outrun police on foot.

Dallas Police said the ambulance was taken from Fire Station No.53 on Monday morning and spotted early that afternoon in southeast Dallas County.

The man behind the wheel of the ambulance refused to stop and led police in a nearly two-hour chase that crossed Dallas County north into Collin County and the towns of Plano, McKinney and Princeton.

Sometimes the driver intentionally entered oncoming traffic, but no accidents were reported in the pursuit.

It was back in McKinney where the driver again attempted to lose police, sheriff’s deputies and state soldiers in a residential area, often going off-road and through lawns trying to escape.

The ambulance apparently reached the end of a sidewalk and the driver quickly bailed out and attempted to outrun the police on foot while trying to pull up his slack pants.

Moments later, the man was stranded in a fenced area and taken into custody by several officers near Joyce Way and Tension Lane.

Officers from the Dallas Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Texas State Soldiers, and a number of other agencies, helped end the pursuit.
