Chase Winovich records his first career bag – with the help of a butterfly – CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) – Patriots rookie Chase Winovich recorded his first career bag in Sunday's 43-0 victory over the Miami Dolphins. As he explained after the match, the border guard had a little help on the game from his late grandmother, in the form of a butterfly.

In the fourth quarter of the New England victory, Winovich scoffed at his left opponent, Jesse Davis, and led quarterback Josh Rosen to the ground for an eight-yard loss. It was his first career bag in the NFL, having been credited with a half-sack with teammate Jamie Collins earlier in the game.

Winovich said after the match that he knew something special was going to happen just before his bag because he had seen a butterfly hovering over the field. As he explained, his late grandmother always said that she would come back as a butterfly and that he could feel his presence on Sunday.

"It was cool, actually. Before receiving my bag, my grandmother, who died, always said that she would come back like a butterfly. And I tore a little on the ground. It was literally a few plays before, I saw a butterfly float and I got the following impression: he explained.

"And of course, a few pieces later, thankfully I went home," he said of his bag. "My teammates had excellent coverage and set it up for me."

New England's defense was a dominant force Sunday, sacking Miami's quarterbacks seven times while getting four interceptions. They have not yet allowed a touchdown this season.

"It's just something from which to build," Winovich said of the defense's performance. "I can not wait to see where this is going."

Winovich has a lot to do after Sunday's game, and his performance also earned him an extra cheddar. During the pre-season, Winovich revealed that his other grandmother was still sending him $ 5 and a chocolate bar if he played well and did not hurt himself. After the game, he was asked if this five-point ticket could become a $ 10 bill this time, knowing that he had earned his first career NFL bag on Sunday.

"We only have $ 5 left," he said. "But money is money."
