Currently, for the Xbox Series X and S, there is a 1 TB storage drive from Seagate that fits perfectly into the storage space of both consoles. This 1TB drive offers almost double the space for the Xbox Series X while also taking advantage of next-gen hardware load times.
While the 1TB storage drive looks wonderful to Xbox Series X | S owners, it comes at an insanely high price tag of US $ 220 (CA $ 280). Of course, there are other cheaper storage units out there, like an external hard drive or SDD, but they won’t benefit from the Xbox’s fast load times. Fortunately, in a recent leak, it appears that Seagate will soon be selling a smaller alternative to 1TB storage drives. New 512GB expansion drives appear to have leaked from retailers, and according to an anonymous source who spoke to WindowCentral , the storage drives could be sold during the holiday season.
The leak also confirmed an Xbox SSD USB game drive that users can place their games on in case they want to play them later. This would theoretically offer a faster solution than completely re-downloading the games. Gamers can simply move games from USB SSD to internal SSD.
It’s not yet clear how much this new 512GB expansion drive will cost, but it’s more than likely to be at least half the price of the 1TB drive. That will finally give Xbox Series X | S owners another alternative to paying $ 220 for another expansion drive. These solutions hold promise for next-gen owners who are still working with the limited storage space of new Xbox consoles.
Granted, even at half the price of the 1TB expansion drive, the 512GB expansion drive is a bit pricey. This will more than likely satisfy Xbox Series X owners as they already have 1TB of internal space, but for Xbox Series S owners who have 512GB of internal space, that might not be enough. New Xbox consoles are approaching the one-year mark, so hopefully even cheaper storage alternatives emerge soon.
