Check M1 compatibility for all your Mac apps with this free tool

[ad_1]

We recently saw some valuable application and game databases to keep track of all software optimized for Apple Silicon. Now, a free open source app – from developer DigiDNA who makes iMazing – means it’s very easy to locally check all apps on your Mac for M1 app compatibility.

As we’ve shared before, Apple’s official support for Silicon apps offers finely tuned efficiency and truly impressive performance, but even unsupported apps running through Rosetta 2 translation work just fine (this which occurs automatically after macOS Big Sur prompts you to download Rosetta 2 for the first time). The Rosetta translation is so good that M1 Macs can even execute x86 instructions faster than Intel Macs in many cases.

But it’s still important and exciting to see official M1 compatibility coming, especially for your most important or critical applications.

We saw the above resources launch and they are really helpful. But if you want to check your own apps more transparently, iMazing has created a free open source app to check Apple Silicon M1 Mac compatibility called “Silicon”.

You can find the free download for Silicon on the iMazing website here (4th app down). And you can check out the app’s source code (and also download it) on GitHub here.

Silicon lets you drag and drop individual apps to check compatibility as well as check your entire Applications folder at once.

Swiss developer DigiDNA creates iMazing, a manager for iPhone, iPad and iPod much more powerful than what is available from Apple in Finder / iTunes. And also creates a variety of other useful apps, you can check out all the free software from them here.
