Chelsea are set to sign Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku on a deal estimated at € 115million, sources have told ESPN.
The move, which will see Lukaku join Chelsea for the second time, is unlikely to involve any player in the opposite direction. Marcos Alonso had been linked with a move to Inter as part of the deal.
Details have yet to be finalized in terms of payment plan, but personal terms are not seen as an issue. Sources told ESPN that Lukaku’s salary is around £ 250,000 per week.
Sources at Inter told ESPN they never intended to leave Lukaku, even rejecting an offer of € 100million plus Alonso. It was only when Lukaku informed them of his desire to leave that the club decided that they would assess any “non-refusal” offer.
Chelsea consciously kept the fees for Lukaku below what Manchester City had agreed with Aston Villa for Jack Grealish earlier in the week. The move would be a club record transfer for Chelsea.
Lukaku, 28, has scored 47 goals in 72 Serie A appearances for Inter since joining Manchester United on a € 80million contract in 2019.
The Belgium international started his career at Anderlecht before moving for the first time to Chelsea in 2011, where he enjoyed loan spells at West Bromwich Albion and Everton. Lukaku then signed permanently to Everton and then moved to Old Trafford in 2017.
