Chevrolet's safety feature will not let teens drive without a seatbelt

Chevy has a compelling reason to add this feature. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts are the best way to protect themselves in a collision, and teens consistently have the lowest seatbelt use rate.

Buckle to Drive builds on the other safety features of the Chevrolet Teen Driver brand, such as automatic mute until the driver and front passenger seat belts are buckled and parents can adjust the speed warnings. The system also creates report cards that track metrics such as distance traveled and the number of times security systems are enabled. While teens can look to a car that tells their parents when they're going fast, technology could, theoretically, protect them more.
