California regulators say Chevron has not done enough to stop a massive oil spill that has spilled about 800,000 gallons of crude oil and water into a canyon in Kern County.

Soil seepage, where Chevron has been injecting steam to extract oil, has been intermittent since May.

The state issued a finding of contravention to Chevron ordering it to stop the steam injections around the infiltration zone. Chevron said the last feed was Tuesday.

KQED reports that regulators took a new step Friday by ordering the company to completely stop the flow and prevent any further release. Chevron said it would review the order and work with the relevant agencies.
