Production of 2021 Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray is, once again, stopped. If you’re not following (like me), this is now the fourth time General Motors has taken a break from production of the sports car, and according to a Corvette Blogger report from Thursday, workers won’t be returning to start building the. car until February 8. The shutdown would begin on February 1.
Chevrolet confirmed the shutdown and in a statement said, “Due to a temporary parts supply issue, we can confirm that Bowling Green Assembly will not go into production the week of February 1. Our line crews d Supply, manufacturing and engineering are working closely with our supplier base to mitigate any further impact on production, and we expect the plant to resume normal operations on Monday, February 8. ”
The brand didn’t talk about what was actually missing, so it’s unclear what led to the disruption this time around. In November, when production shut down for the third time, Chevy refused to disclose the parts shortages that caused the shutdown, so we’re very unlikely to learn more this time around.
Like I said, the eighth-generation Corvette had a rocky road since GM revealed the mid-engined sports car. A strike of the united auto workers at the origin pushed production for a few months, and when production finally kicked off, the coronavirus pandemic struck. GM joined with nearly every other major automaker in shutting down auto production to slow the spread of the virus last March, and it took Corvette production offline with. GM also had a week stop last October for other supplier issues.
