A Chicago police officer shot dead a 13-year-old boy earlier this week in what authorities reportedly called an “armed confrontation.”

The teenager, identified by the coroner’s office Thursday as Adam Toledo, was gunned down in an alleyway in Little Village on Monday after cops responded in the area when gunshots were detected by ShotSpotter technology, reported ABC 7 Chicago.

Toledo, who police said was armed, was with another suspect at the time, Ruben Roman, 21, when police arrived.

“Why did he shoot her if there are other ways?” the mother told ABC 7 Chicago. “He was a little boy. Obviously he was going to be scared, ”she said.

The mother said her son wanted to be a police officer when he grew up.

“He was so full of life,” she told the news channel. “They just took it off.”

The officer involved in the shooting, according to the report, was assigned to the office amid an investigation by the Civilian Police Accountability Office.
