However, a complex storm system developing in the high plains brought heavy winds and hail on Friday in parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas, some of which is moving eastward. .

The storm system is moving rapidly into the Midwest, where heavy rains were already falling in parts of Nebraska and Iowa on Saturday morning. Some of this moisture will interact with just enough cold air to bring snow to parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes this weekend.

Winter weather warnings and winter storm warnings are in effect from eastern South Dakota to western Michigan, including Milwaukee and Chicago. Some alerts are likely to spread east during Saturday's day.

The rain will begin to turn into snow late in the morning in parts of South Dakota and Southwest Minnesota. As the storm moves quickly eastward, the snow will likely fall on Iowa and along the border between Wisconsin and Illinois, with snow bands likely to drift to the east. reach Milwaukee and Chicago.
