Chicago’s Department of Business and Consumer Protection (BACP) said in a statement it had conducted 93 investigations over the weekend as part of a task force formed to crack down on large gatherings in under the city’s Covid-19 regulations.

Since October 30, Chicago has banned indoor dining and drink under state-imposed measures to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

The city said it received a complaint about a basement party that took place early Sunday morning.

The task force issued several citations, cease and desist orders and shutdown orders to The Vault / All Access for hosting a dangerous and unlicensed trade party with around 300 attendees, no social distancing and no facial coverage, ”the BAPC said.

The Vault / All Access received nine citations for violating Covid-19 regulations and five restraining orders for illegal business activity, the statement said.

The city’s building department also ordered the site closed for “unsafe and unsafe conditions, including no smoke detectors, no carbon monoxide detectors, no fire extinguishers.”

There have been at least 13.5 million cases of Covid-19 in the United States and at least 268,045 deaths in the United States from the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Cook County, which is the seat of Chicago, has recorded 304,220 cases and more than 6,500 deaths, Johns Hopkins says.
A record 96,039 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized across the United States on Monday evening, according to the Covid Tracking Project.

Illinois restrictions

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker told a press conference Monday that mitigation measures in his state would not be lowered over the next few weeks as any Thanksgiving effect has been assessed.

“The number of patients battling Covid-19 in our statewide hospital systems still dwarfs our spring peak by 23%,” Pritzker said. “The decline in cases in Illinois over the past few days comes as we see near-record hospitalizations, which means our ability to handle any further surge in Covid patient numbers is still limited. If we are not particularly careful at this time the surge will overwhelm our state’s health care system. “

Chicago isn’t the only city targeting parties in violation of coronavirus restrictions.

In New York City, a party of 400 people was forced to close this weekend.

The Manhattan Bottle Club was closed around 2:45 a.m. ET on Saturday after city sheriffs discovered around 400 revelers, the New York Sheriff’s Office said.

The club, between Manhattan’s Midtown and Garment District, violated emergency orders and did not have a liquor license, the sheriff’s office said.

Four organizers have been charged with “offenses against criminal, health and alcohol control laws”, according to a tweet from the sheriff’s office.

CNN’s Anna Sturla contributed to this report.
