Tuesday night, during the Cubs broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago, a fan was seen behind analyst Doug Glanville, a former black MLB player, who made a hand gesture that was called a sign of white power.
Crane Kenney, president of Cubs' business operations, said in a statement released after the match that the organization would conduct an investigation "because no one should be subjected to this type of offensive behavior".
"An individual sitting behind Mr. Glanville used what appears to be an offensive hand gesture associated with racism," the statement said. "Such ignorant and disgusting behavior is not tolerated at Wrigley Field."
On Wednesday, Kenney said the fan had violated the organization's code of conduct.
"As a result, after repeated attempts to call this person by phone, we sent a letter to this person to inform him of our findings and his decision not to allow him immediately on the Wrigley Field site or another sentenced area indefinitely, "said Kenney in a statement.
"We further indicated that if he was attempting to enter Wrigley Field or another area served by a ticket, he could be subject to prosecution for violation of criminal property."
Cubs do not reveal the name of the individual to the general public.
