Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has come under fire for continuing to host a music festival amid the reinstatement of COVID-19 restrictions.
Despite plans to resume more pandemic restrictions in the city, the Democratic mayor continued to host Lollapalooza, which is one of the country’s largest music festivals.

Lightfoot herself later appeared in Lollapalooza telling the massive crowds, “Thank you for covering yourself up and getting upset.” Despite frequent criticism of the festival being held, Lightfoot continued to defend his decision.
“It’s outside. We’ve been hosting large-scale events all over town since June with no major issues or issues,” Lightfoot said. “The Lolla team has been phenomenal. They have hired their own public health experts who have been working hand in hand with us since we started these discussions.”
Lollapalooza had already been canceled in 2020 due to pandemic concerns. This cancellation would have cost “at least $ 35 million in sales” and “nearly $ 9 million in lost revenue.”
However, amid various concerns about the Delta variant as well as new COVID-19 restrictions, many people viewed the music festival as a “super-broadcaster” event.

Lightfoot told those traveling to Lollapalooza to wear a mask when riding public transportation after reports that Chicago’s public transportation was filled with passengers not wearing masks.
