Chicago newborn found alive in dresser drawer thrown in back alley

Chicago authorities on Monday discovered an abandoned newborn baby in a chest of drawers thrown in an alley, police said.

Detectives are trying to identify the baby, who they say is less than a week old, the Chicago Police Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

Authorities responded to a call from a woman who found the baby in an alleyway on the 2300 block of North Oak Park Ave around 8 a.m., Fox 32 Chicago first reported.

Garbage collection in the area was scheduled for Wednesday morning, officials said at the outlet.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Zone 5 Figueroa detective at 312-746-6554. Anonymous tipsters can submit information to cpdtip.com.
