Chicago police investigate after the online publication of a video showing the shooting death of a woman who was protecting her child from gunfire.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi issued a statement Sunday night in which he described the release of the video as "unauthorized". Guglielmi adds that the police have informed the Cook County State Attorney's Office of the video and that the department is using it to determine how to access the video. WBBM-TV reports that the video comes from a surveillance camera in the city located in the West Side of Chicago.

Brittany Hill, 24, was shot dead Tuesday while she was standing next to parked cars with her one – year – old daughter in arms. Authorities say Hill placed his body on the girl to protect her from bullets.

Two men from central Illinois were indicted in Hill's death.
