A Chicago’s main police union has opposed an impending warrant for Mayor Lori Lightfoot that requires all city officers to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
John Catanzara, president of the Chicago Police Order, said his group was “100% against mandatory vaccines for our members,” according to a statement given to Fox 32.
“This vaccine has not been studied for side effects or long-term consequences. None,” Catanzara told the Chicago Sun-Times. “Asking anyone to get this vaccine, without that data as a baseline, among other issues, is ‘hell no’ for us. “
He also insisted that all police unions in the city oppose such a mandate.
“It’s not just our guys. These are the sergeants, lieutenants and captains. It is a united front. The four unions. It’s not John Catanzara’s loudmouth anymore, like they like to spin it all the time, ”he told the outlet.
Lightfoot confirmed on Wednesday that all city workers would be required to get a full vaccine against the virus, effective October 15. She first announced her intention to issue a vaccine warrant to city employees earlier this week.

“City workers are absolutely going to have to get vaccinated,” Lightfoot said at a press conference Monday. “We are working on these discussions, which have now been going on for a few weeks with our colleagues from the unions who represent the employees of the city.”
