Many Chick-fil-A customers experienced an unexpected outage on Friday.
A representative for Chick-fil-A confirmed to Insider that the chain’s third-party payment provider experienced outages on Friday at many of the businesses it serves. For about an hour, the payment systems at Chick-fil-A restaurants failed to process payments.
The issue was resolved and restaurants were re-processing payments as usual on Friday at 1:45 p.m. ET, the rep said.
But for some clients there was a silver lining. Many Chick-fil-A restaurants began handing out free meals during the blackout.

Chick-fil-A has some of the longest driving lines in fast food due to its immense popularity. Long lines can create inconvenience even without a breakdown create confusion.
Insider recently reported that Chick-fil-A was facing three separate lawsuits from local businesses alleging the chain’s drive-thru lines were causing problems. The chain is working to speed up drive-thru lines by asking workers to take orders on iPads, rolling out new drive-thru models and opening more restaurants.
