The Johnson County (Kansas) District Attorney's Office has refused to lay charges against the receiver of Kansas City Chiefs Tyreek Hill's star, or his fiancee, was announced Wednesday.
The prosecutor, Stephen M. Howe, said that even though he thought that a crime had been committed, the evidence presented did not make it clear who had committed it. .
According to police reports, police in Overland Park, Kansas, were reportedly summoned to Hill's home on March 14 to investigate an alleged battery of which a minor was allegedly a victim. Crystal Espinal, Hill's fiancée, was among the "people involved". Hill was not on the report.
The Kansas Department of Children and Family investigates the alleged battery.
"This office has reviewed all the evidence gathered by these agencies and refused to file a complaint against Tyreek Hill and Crystal Espinal," Howe said at a press conference Wednesday. "We are deeply concerned by this situation and by our concerns about the health and well-being of the child in question.We believe that a crime has been committed.However, the evidence in this case do not conclusively establish who committed this crime. "
The officers had already been called to Hill's address on March 5 to investigate a report of child abuse or neglect. Hill's name was written on this report. According to the Overland Park Police, the case was closed three days later when prosecutions were denied.
Howe testified that Hill's status as an NFL star did not affect his decision and that he did not speak to the Chiefs' organization, who was aware of the investigation. Hill is still subject to NFL discipline.
He competed alongside his teammates in the off-season volunteer chef conditioning program on April 14th.
"We are at full steam," said coach Andy Reid about the All-Pro double receiver of the time. "I'm not here to judge, I'm here to train."
Hill, three Pro Bowl selections, captured 87 assists last season and ranked fourth in the NFL with 1,479 yards and 12 touchdown receptions.
While he was in Oklahoma State, Hill was found guilty of domestic assault for an incident in which he was accused of hitting and choking on his girlfriend. He was sentenced to three years of probation and anger management classes. He was fired from OSU and completed his academic career in West Alabama.
He completed his probation in 2018 and his conviction was dismissed.
