Chiefs rookie linebacker Willie Gay won’t be on the field for Super Bowl LV.

Gay torn his meniscus in practice Thursday and was operated on immediately, according to Carrington Harrison of 610 Sports in Kansas City.

The Chiefs’ second-round pick in 2020, Gay played 25% of the Chiefs’ defensive shots and 55% of the Chiefs’ special teams shots in the regular season. He didn’t play at all in the playoffs after suffering a sprained ankle in Week 17.

Gay has started eight of the Chiefs’ 16 regular season games.
