Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game. He suffered the injury in the division’s playoff win over the Cleveland Browns, but it was largely overshadowed by his entry into the NFL concussion protocol.
A new report from FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer contains new information on how the Chiefs plan to protect Mahomes from his worsening toe injury during the game. Glazer dismissed the concussion issue as a non-factor ahead of the AFC title game, but said the team were “very concerned about” Mahomes’ toe.
According to Glazer, Mahomes’ left shoe will be fitted with a special carbon fiber brace which she hopes will protect the toe from further injury. This could, however, cause problems with regard to its mobility. Carbon fiber is very stiff and doesn’t allow the flexibility needed for some things. He might even have trouble planting his foot and pushing.

It looks like this toe injury is a bit worse than what the team initially hinted at. Only time will tell if this affects Mahomes during the match. He could have limited mobility and a day to throw out of the pocket or he could empty it and look like himself. Hopefully the latter.
