Child killed when more than 80 bullets fired at Northwest Charlotte home – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE – A child was killed after people in several cars opened fire on a house in northwest Charlotte on Tuesday evening, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., officers responded to several 911 calls regarding a shooting incident along Richard Rozzelle Drive, off Rozzelles Ferry Road, near Mountain Island Lake. When police arrived at the scene, they found a child under 5 who had been shot.

This child was rushed to hospital but did not survive. The exact age and sex of the child have not yet been released.

Channel 9 spoke to the police, and their frustration and disappointment was clear.

“As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time, not only for the friends and family involved, but for the neighbors and officers who are currently working on this case,” said CMPD Maj. Ryan Butler. “I cannot stress enough the gravity of this situation and I know that we have unfortunately spoken to each other several times over the past week.”

According to detectives, several vehicles targeted the house, hurling more than 80 bullets towards the house, in which the child was at the time.

Officers worked through the night surveying the neighborhood to determine if other homes had been hit by gunfire. It appears that other houses have been affected, but no other injuries have been reported.

“This is a situation in which we have a very young innocent child who has been taken out of the community due to the actions of some people who have clearly shown complete disregard for the welfare of their fellow human beings. “Butler told Channel 9. scene. “It is a far cry from what we are capable of as a community here in Charlotte.”

No description of the suspect or vehicle has been published and the investigation is active and ongoing.
