A young child was killed Tuesday night in Fresno, Calif., When an Amtrak train struck a van carrying a family to view the popular Christmas Tree Lane display of lights.
The collision, which occurred at around 5:40 p.m. Pacific Time, sent three other family members to the Community Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The mother of the child was among those treated and there were several witnesses to the incident, according to ABC 30. Authorities did not disclose the child’s age, name or sex.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the van had stopped on the tracks while waiting to turn. Traffic had receded towards Van Ness Avenue, The Fresno Bee reported.
Traffic unit investigators were dispatched to the scene to “determine exactly how the vehicle got stuck on the tracks,” Lt. Andre Benson told KSEE-TV.
The train, which was heading for Bakersfield, was carrying 50 passengers, none of whom were injured in the crash. He finally continued to his destination.
First responders arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance but were unable to save the child.
Tuesday marked the opening night of the nearly century-old Christmas Tree Lane, of which 100 decorated houses and 300 trees attract thousands each year.
