"What is responsive? Is my daughter possibly infected with HIV," said the patient's mother in tears at the news.
According to Cecilia Pitrowski, deputy director of the Rancagua Hospital, the cause would be a faulty sterilization of the material used in the procedure, which was reported by a member of the team at the scene. This involved the possibility of transmitting communicable diseases such as hepatitis and HIV.
On the same day, another 15 children were successfully operated on tonsils.
Since the hospital, they told parents not to worry, because the test was going to be confirmed by the ISP of Santiago and that "most of these exams are negative afterwards."
The hospital, meanwhile, considers the case as a global affair and specifies that there is still no pathology confirmed in any of the miners intervened that day. "There is no infected patient," Pitrowski said, adding that a summary had been drawn up to define responsibilities and inform the prosecutor's office.
In the meantime, the parents of the small study filed a complaint while anxiously awaiting the results of the ISP. which takes 10 days to clear up. The mother says that the hospital did not even offer them psychological support to deal with the situation.
In this regard, the Minister of Health, Emilio Santelices, was consulted on the situation but was not made aware.
