Chile loses with Venezuela, but continues in the race

Chile struggled in the first quarter against Venezuela. In their last game of the group stage – knowing that they had already qualified for the second qualifying round, after Colombia's defeat against Brazil – the national team succumbed to the greater visiting power, which prevailed by 71-50 in the floor of the Antonio Azurmendy Colosseum, Valdivia.

Poor shooting selection (two hits in 14 perimeter attempts), losses on the exit and, most importantly, unobtrusive performance under the table (31 rebounds vs. 46 of Vinotinto) were the sins of the national team, who closed the first phase of the road to the 2019 China World Cup with a balance of one win and five falls. The best national hand was Felipe Haase (12 points).

Now, the national team – which at least avoided the descent to Series B – will face Canada, the Dominican Republic and the Virgin Islands. In September everything goes: the reds will visit the Dominican Republic and receive Canada.
