One in three women in the Americas suffered violence from their partner throughout their lives warned Thursday the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). which emphasized the dispersion between the different countries.
"In our region, partner violence is the most prevalent form of violence against women and affects one in three women in America ," said Isabella Danel, deputy director of PAHO at a conference in Washington.
According to the study, the prevalence of physical and / or badual violence varies from one country to another and in some countries it affects 14% of women, while others can reach almost 60% of this female population.
Research from national surveys in 24 countries shows that some types of violence have decreased over the last 20 years in Canada, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico , Nicaragua and Peru.
However, the organization warns that "some variations in the data of these countries were very small and that some of the indicators had not changed linearly".
The organization warned that the violence against women has many health consequences, including death that they are due murder, suicide, or diseases badociated with infections and maternal deaths.
