The co-creator of Spiderman's comic, Steve Ditko, was found dead in his apartment. Manhattan, New York, as confirmed by the police.
The 90-year-old draftsman had not been seen for days until he was found without vital signs by a maintenance officer on June 29, as reported to the DPA by a spokesman for the New York Police Department. He did not detail the causes of his death.
Ditko was responsible for creating the iconic red and blue costume and spider webs of the superhero, created with author Stan Lee in 1961.
He also created the popular character from Doctor Strange, in 1963, but left the Marvel publishing house after being peeled with Lee, in an episode that has never been clarified by any of them.
Ditko worked for DC Comics and other independent publishers before joining Marvel in 1979, where he continued to work as a freelancer in the 1990s.
Author Neil Gaiman paid tribute on Twitter to qualify him as an artist who "will never be equaled". "I know I am a different person because he was in the world," he writes excitedly.
