Brazil was eliminated on Friday from the World Cup in the quarter-finals after being beaten 2-1 by Belgium and having left the tournament without any South American team, thus extending a negative 60-year tradition to which no South American World Cup team has played in Europe, certifying in turn that the new champion will be a European team.

There are more non-European teams in the World Cup in Russia. The four semi-finalists will come from the "Old Continent": France, Belgium, Croatia or Russia and Sweden or England. It will extend at least up to 60 years on the South American drought (and the rest of the continents) in Europe. Only Brazil in Sweden 1958 was able to win the World Cup. He did it with a very young Pele monopolizing the covers and scoring six goals at his age of 17.

In total, 60 years have pbaded since this final, when Brazil beat the Swedes in their field. In fact, only South Americans in Europe have been vice-champions since 1958: Argentina in 1990 and Brazil in 1998. Assuming that the 2022 World Cup will be played in Qatar and the 2026 World Cup between the United States and Canada, one can at least, until 2030 (without known place) there will be no South American champion on the European territory.

All other world titles of South American countries were far from Europe. The other four Brazilian titles were made in Chile in 1962, in Mexico in 1970, in the United States in 1994 and in South Korea and Japan in 2002. The two Argentine players were welcomed in 1978 and Mexico 1986. For its On the other hand, Uruguay raised the first World Cup of all, then called by Jules Rimet, in Uruguayan territory in 1930 and the second in Brazil in 1950, with the famous "Maracanazo".

Including the current one in Russia, eleven World Cups were played on the European continent
