On Monday morning, the Maori All Blacks arrived at Santiago Airport, the New Zealand rugby team that will face the Chilean rugby team next Saturday . The players were greeted with a traditional welcome performed by a member of a Mapuche community.
The Lonko of the Mapuche LLUG Association KYM HUE HUARRIA, José Hueche Carcaman, received the Rugbistas with a message to Mapudungun. Dressed in typical clothes, the comuneros asked the ancestral spirits Wenu Fucha and Wenu Kuche to give strength to the visitors and to give them a good tour of the country.
At the ceremony were present Chile Rugby President Jorge Araya; Undersecretary for Sport, Kael Becerra; and New Zealand's ambbadador to the country, Jaqui Caine.
Presents at the welcoming ceremony donned their traditional costumes and played traditional instruments such as kultrun, orkiñ and pifilkas. The men wore a Weño or a wooden stick similar to a hockey stick. After the words of welcome, the group gave in to the loud cry "Afafán" or "Kefafan" to finish by personally greeting each of the members of the Maori team.
