China has called on the United States to respect Chinese sovereignty and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs, in response to President Joe Biden’s decision to offer some Hong Kong residents temporary refuge.
A memo signed by the US president on Aug. 5 showed blatant interference in the internal affairs of Hong Kong and China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said in a statement.
