BEIJING: An eastern province of China plans to ban teachers from assigning homework to mobile applications as part of applications to preserve the students' eyesight.

Zhejiang Province released a draft regulation last week and is seeking public comment.

In addition to prohibiting application-based homework, the use of electronic devices would be limited to 30% of total teaching time and would encourage the manual issuance of paper-based homework .

The soaring rates of myopia is partly attributed to the use of the screen.

The regulation would prohibit elementary and secondary school students from bringing electronic devices to classrooms without permission, limit the amount of assigned work, and increase the time spent on breaks, sports and extracurricular activities.

He says that no written assignment at all should be awarded to first- and second-year students.
