The police suspect of entering a real estate office and killing four people – shocking the inhabitants of a small town unaccustomed to such macabre violence – is a chiropractor who served in the US Navy.
Chad Isaak, 44, of Washburn, N.D., was arrested Thursday, three days after the murders at RJR Management, a company that collects rents from homeowners, including the owner of the suspect.
An affidavit of the court made public Friday claims that three victims were shot and that the fourth was stabbed and that the attack was captured on a surveillance video.
"It is clear in the surveillance that the aggressor is the only one to inflict injury to the victims," the affidavit says.
The affidavit also states that Isaac left the scene after removing the brightly colored clothing he was wearing and that he had been searched at his home. All of these items all bore traces of bleach.
SUSPECT STOPPED IN A QUADRUPLE MURDER OF NORTH DAKOTA
The affidavit indicates that the search also found a business card for RJR, Robert Fakler, 52, one of the victims, and nine shell cases. According to the document, the victims had been shot nine times.
No motive has been given for the murders.
The murders took place in Mandan, a town near the state capital, Bismark, which has a population of 22,000 and a tiny police force. There has been no killing in Mandan since 2016.
"It has been a tough week for everyone," said Mayor Tim Helbling.
The other victims were Lori Cobb, 45, and her husband, Bill, 50, and Adam Fuehrer, 42. Each was shot and gunshot wounded, according to the affidavit. Fakler was only stabbed. A memorial service is planned for them next week.
Online recordings show that Isaac has been a chiropractor in Washburn for 13 years. His professional license expires in September.
A marriage announcement in 1995 indicated that Isaak was a laboratory assistant in the US Navy serving Pearl Harbor.
He had no arrests in North Dakota, reported Kxnet.com.
Investigators identified Isaak as a suspect after watching hours of surveillance video and identifying Isaak's vehicle as being on the scene, police said.
"Following the investigation led the McLean County office to Sherriff to locate the vehicle in Washburn," police said. "McLean County MPs blocked the circulation of the suspicious vehicle and arrested Isaak while a search warrant had been executed."
"The evidence found on Isaak and in the vehicle provided a probable reason for placing Isaak under arrest for the murders," police said.

The affidavit indicates that the evidence found by the police in the vehicle included human blood.
Isaak's owner, Rolf Eggers, stated that he had never met Isaak and that he had never heard of any problems with him. Eggers said he talked about the property at Falker several times a week and that Isaak never showed up.
"It was not a problem," said Eggers. "He has never attracted attention."
The arrest was a relief for Bri Miller, Lori and Bill Cobb's daughter.

"The Mandan Police Service has done everything possible to get to the bottom of this insane and senseless act," Miller wrote on Facebook. "(A) Although many questions remain in the minds of families, at least a little relief has been removed from our shoulders."
