Chloe Zhao’s acclaimed film “Nomadland,” a road drama set to be a major award-winning player, has shifted its release plan due to the pandemic.
The film – starring Frances McDormand as a woman who leaves her small town to travel to the American West – will debut in select Imax theaters on January 29 before opening in mainstream theaters and movies. parks on February 19. On the same day as its wide release in February, “Nomadland” premieres on Hulu.
Searchlight Pictures, the Disney-owned specialty studio, is distributing the film and plans to have its international premiere throughout the spring (pandemic permitting) from March 4.
Prior to its theatrical release, “Nomadland” toured the festival circuit, winning top prizes at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival. It also landed on many critics’ best of the year list, including Variety Peter Debruge. In his review, Debruge called the film an “ode to American independence”.
