Chris Hemsworth joins #TimesUpGlobes movement due to lack of black members in HFPA

Chris Hemsworth criticized the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its lack of diversity after a report revealed that it currently has no black members.

The Thor’s star, 37, joined a growing number of celebrities by posting the #TimesUpGlobes hashtag and Instagram post on Sunday.

“ Hollywood Foreign Press Association: Not a single black member in 87, ” the Time’s Up post read, along with a photo of a cracked Golden Globe trophy.

Amy Schumer, Rashida Jones, Ellen Barkin and Amber Tamblyn are some of the other celebrities showing their support as well.

It comes after a Los Angeles Times report revealed that the HFPA, which runs and hosts the Golden Globe Awards, currently has no black members out of its 87 international journalists.

The HFPA is a non-profit organization of journalists who report on the entertainment industry in the United States for media primarily outside the United States.

Its 87 members from over 50 countries include various people of color, but not a single black member.

On Thursday, the HFPA released a statement promising to implement an “action plan” to have a more inclusive and diverse membership body.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that our members reflect the communities around the world who love film, television and the artists who inspire and educate them,” the statement began.

“We understand that we need to attract black members, as well as members from other under-represented backgrounds, and we will work immediately to implement a plan of action to achieve these goals as soon as possible.

The members of the group are made up of a female majority, with more than 35% of the members of HFPA coming from non-European countries.

The organization added that it was considering changing its rules to increase its pool of applicants in the future.
