Olave announced Monday night that he would be returning to the state of Ohio for his senior year. He made the announcement on social media.
Ranked as the 68th top wide receiver and just among the top 400 prospects in the recruiting class of 2018, Olave was somewhat of a rough diamond for the state of Ohio. After transfer to Mission Hills High School after his sophomore year, Olave had to drop out of his junior season and missed out on much of the movie winning rookie offers. Buckeye’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at the time Ryan day saw Olave for the first time on a recruiting visit to see a four-star quarterback prospect Jack Tuttle. Olave was asked to be a wide receiver as Tuttle pitched for Coach Buckeye.
Day liked what he saw of Olave and gifted the receiver in October 2017. Other flagship offerings followed soon after, but Olave chose the Scarlet and Gray. And Ohio State fans are certainly glad he did.
Despite a large reception room which already included Parris campbell, Terry McLaurin, Johnnie dixon, Austin Mack and Binjimen Victor, Olave was able to make an impact as a rookie. After catching two total assists in resounding wins earlier this year, Olave stepped in when Mack injured himself and finished the season with 12 receptions for 197 yards and three touchdowns, including two catches for two touchdowns against his rivals. of Michigan and a receiving five, 79-yard, scoring performance in the Big Ten Championship Game.
The end of his first year prepared Olave for a successful second season. Featured more regularly in the Buckeye attack as a starter, Olave quickly developed a chemistry with the quarterback Justin fields. The receiver made at least two catches in each game, ending the year with 49 receptions for a record 849 yards and 12 touchdowns. After the season, Olave was named the third All-Big Ten team by coaches and the media.
Heading into 2020, Olave was on the preseason watchlist for the Biletnikoff Prize. But like many players on the Ohio State roster, the receiver has been affected by the Big Ten’s shortened season and the Buckeyes are only playing five games in the regular season. Olave has consistently recorded impressive numbers, recording 50 catches for 729 cards and nine touchdowns in just seven games as Scarlet and Gray won a fourth consecutive Big Ten Championship and played in the 2021 College Football Playoffs National Championship game.

Olave’s return will give Ohio State a busy reception hall for the starting named quarterback after Justin Fields announced he was heading to the NFL Draft earlier today on Monday.
