Chris Paddack wasted no time in starting his first Big-League beef

Rookie pitcher Chris Paddack is unlucky enough to play baseball on the regularly overlooked West Coast Padre of the San Diego Padres. Such conditions may make it difficult for a young player to get noticed at the national level, but Paddack does not seem to be able to be influenced by the circumstances.

Before playing against the Mets in San Diego last night, Paddack did his best to call Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who has just been awarded the NL Rookie title. Paddack, who finished the month of April with an ERA of 1.91 and 35 strikeouts over 33 innings, felt that he deserved this award and had been snubbed. We know it because he went out and said that, and promised to dispel his frustration with Alonso. Of New York Daily News:

"He's a great player, no doubt," Paddack said of Alonso. "Does he deserve (the rookie's honor of the month)? Absolutely. But I come for him. We will see Monday who is the best dog. This is something I look forward to.

"And I do not say that arrogantly. I say that because I know what I want, just as I'm sure he knows what he wants. It will be a fun little match. "

Paddack has actually come for Alonso, as well as for the rest of the Mets training. He ruled out the Mets in 7.2 innings, allowing only four hits while eliminating 11 points. He was also stuck and as fearsome as a pitcher may be:

Alonso has counted for two of Paddack's outings, and I think it's fair to say that Paddack was pumped, and maybe even a little screwed up, for killing his chosen rival:

This is good stuff. Baseball is currently full of fascinating and talented young players, but the league itself has never been so effective in helping these players get all the attention they deserve. What Paddack has shown, is that sometimes the best thing to do is to take things in hand. You want to be a star in this league? Get an enemy, then throw the ball extremely hard in his direction.
