Longtime NFL.com writer and member of Around the NFL podcast Chris Wesseling died on Friday at the age of 46 following a battle with cancer.
Wesseling is survived by his wife, Lakisha, and their son Lincoln. Lakisha, who is a digital content editor on NFL.com, announced his death Saturday on social networks:
02/05/2021: Linc won the best Guardian Angel. Chris passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon. I was by his side, holding his hand. Knowing that he is no longer in pain comforts me, but my heart is on me. hurts so much I took him to the hospital on the 19th thinking he would be admitted for a few days like before… not knowing that this would be the last time he would be home. was spread to his lungs and other areas. I’m stuck between denial and anger. Why take such a kind and loving soul? Why? Chris made an everlasting impression on everyone he met, even in his last days. A nurse gave me a letter to give her to Linc the day after I took him to see Chris. I read it last night and it is one of the most beautiful letters ever written by anyone in coincidence that wanted Linc to know what kind of man his father was from a complete stranger. I know Chris is in heaven looking down on us . I’ll do my best to raise Linc the way I know he wants to. I see Chr est every time I look at Linc’s face. I’m so grateful that I can keep a part of him with me. “
Chris Wesseling joined NFL Media in 2013 after previously working as a writer for NBCSports.com and as a senior NFL editor at Rotoworld.com.
Wesseling quickly established himself as one of NFL Media’s most unique voices, blending his analysis of football with his vast knowledge of literature and history. Wesseling was also a fan favorite on the Around the NFL podcast, where he offered his signature style of football knowledge and humor when discussing league news and game breakdown with colleagues Dan Hanzus, Gregg Rosenthal and Marc Sessler.
