Zach Mettenberger will replace Christian Hackenberg as the new Memphis Express quarterback.

The former NFL quarterback, Christian Hackenberg, is no longer the starting quarterback of the Memphis Express of the Alliance of American Football.

Coach Mike Singletary told reporters Monday that he had decided to stay alongside former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger as a new starter. Mettenberger replaced Hackenberg in Saturday's 21-17 defeat against the Orlando Apollos.

Hackenberg was cleared in the second half after the team lost 9-0 at the break. He went 8-in-14 with 88 yards and two interceptions.

Meanwhile, Mettenberger scored a double with 120 yards and two touchdowns, while he was almost leading the Express (0-3) to a win.

Hackenberg had a difficult start for the AAF. HThe team lost against Birmingham Iron, 26-0, and he went 10 against 23 with 87 yards and an interception. Hackenberg, 23, also forgot he was caught off guard during the match, offering a selection of curses.

Mettenberger will get his first start for the Saturday Express against the San Diego fleet (2-1).
