Tests confirmed that Alabama outside linebacker Christopher Allen broke his foot in Saturday’s win over Miami and will require surgery, coach Nick Saban said on Monday.

“He’s probably – he’s most likely out for the year,” Saban added.

Allen, a senior in a red shirt, was an All-SEC preseason third team selection by coaches and media.

He was replaced in Saturday’s game by sophomore Drew Sanders, a five-star prospect in the 2020 class. Chris Braswell, another five-star rookie in 2020, and Dallas Turner, a also five-star freshman, could also see their playing time increase.

“Drew did a really good job for us. He was a very good special teams player, ”Saban said on Monday. “Now he’s going to have the chance to step up and start, although we’ve kind of turned all three of those guys to the outside linebacker all as starters.

“We have a lot of confidence in Drew. He’s a good athlete. Intelligent, hard worker, plays with tenacity, gives good efforts. So we’ll have to, you know, get other guys into that position as well, but we’re really happy and confident in Drew.
