Google may have put aside one of the most anticipated Chrome features – Duet – but the company is still working on changing small chunks to make it easier to navigate in the mobile browser. One of the latest experiments was spotted by 9to5Google, which reports that a new flag moves Google search in a carousel below the address bar, giving you quick access to other results.

The function is controlled by a Continuous search navigation flag (chrome: // flags / # continuous-search). Once you activate it and restart your browser, you can run any Google search through the address bar to check it. You’ll first be taken to the familiar Google search page, but once you tap on a result you’ll notice that Chrome’s top bar expands and adds a results carousel below your address bar. You can scroll it horizontally and tap on the results to switch to another website on the fly, without having to go back to your results first. To return to the results overview, you can tap a Google icon to the left of the carousel. The interface can be closed by pressing the x button on the right.

The flag is also present in the stable version of Chrome, but it only really shines in Chrome Canary 93. The implementation is much more rudimentary in the stable version, where you can’t close the carousel and you can’t go back to the search results with one click – you will have to go back until you reach the search results again.

Chrome 91 versus Chrome 93.

As with any hidden interface change, it remains to be seen whether Google will really pull it off. The company might decide to remove this layout from search results altogether or bring it to the browser in a refined form at some point.

You can download the latest version of Canary from the Play Store or APK Mirror, if you want to try the advanced version of the Results Carousel for yourself.
