Chrome iCloud Passwords extension for Windows is coming

Over the years, Apple has made a handful of apps available for Microsoft platforms primarily aimed at iPhone owners using Windows. One of the main applications today is an iCloud sync client, and Apple is expected to release an iCloud Passwords Chrome extension soon.

iCloud for Windows was updated yesterday (via MacRumors) to version 12.0, and the release notes mention “support for the iCloud Passwords Chrome extension”. In the main list of available services, there is a new item “Passwords”. Pressing “Apply” to continue at the bottom opens a prompt that further confirms the existence of this new tool and its features:

ICloud Passwords extension for Chrome is required

Download the extension to auto-populate website passwords with your iCloud Keychain.

The “Download…” button opens a Chrome Web Store file that is not yet available. This extension will allow access to usernames and credentials saved on your iPhone and iPad on Windows workstations.

The only other Chrome extension from Apple is iCloud Bookmarks. It was last updated in 2017 for Windows 7 and 8. From 2007 to 2012, the company offered Safari. If the Windows version was still available, Apple probably wouldn’t release this Chrome extension. A launch will likely come sooner rather than later given the iCloud update.

Meanwhile, Apple also offers iTunes for PCs and Apple TV + for Xbox. Our colleagues from 9to5Mac this year, music and podcast apps could also hit the Microsoft Store.
