If you’re using the Canary version of Chrome, you might have noticed the playlist icon hanging on the right side of the bookmarks bar, just below your profile photo and the main settings button. This is a new feature from Chrome 89, hidden by default in the standard version but available via a flag, and enabled by default in Chrome 91 Canary. What is also present in this version, and what was not present before, is the ability to hide it with a quick right click.

If you’re in Canary and your bookmarks bar is visible, right-click an empty space on the bar. At the bottom of the context menu are a series of options, which now include “Show Playlist”. Click this entry to remove the check mark and hide the Playlist button. To make it reappear, do the same in reverse order.

This is a good option for those who use smaller laptop or tablet screens, where horizontal space is of the utmost importance. While the playlist itself is available via flags in the beta and the full version of older versions, that right-click option to quickly hide it isn’t.

There’s never any guarantee of what Google will or won’t offer in Chrome, but it seems like a pretty straightforward and natural extension of the existing functionality that it’s likely to be retained in the transition. It’s the kind of little tweak that can even get a head start on release builds, so you can see it in Chrome before 91 hits the general releases branch in a few months.
