If you’ve ever had an annoying (and maybe private) Chrome notification while sharing your screen, you’re in luck – Chrome will now turn off notifications by default when it detects that you’re sharing your screen. It should hit all accounts soon, but you can manually activate it if you want.

The functionality is very simple; it will just hide the content of incoming notifications from Chrome and Google Chat if there is any while you are sharing your screen. Google previously turned off notifications when sharing a tab in Google Meet, but it will now work regardless of how you share your screen.

This is currently being rolled out and is expected to affect virtually all G Suite users within the next three days. If, however, you want to try it out now, you can do so manually by turning it on in the flags (chrome: // flags / # mute-notifications-during-screen-share). Our resident Chrome expert, Kent, has been activating this flag for a long time and has had no issues with it.
