Google is launching a new Web Vitals metric with Chrome 85 Beta – a metric that can tell you if a page you visit won’t take forever to load. The new metric will assign URLs and URLs within the same website “that have historically met or exceeded all metric thresholds for Core Web Vitals” a “Quick Page” label. Links that earn the label have been historically fast for most users, although Chrome can also rate them host-by-host if they’re still new or not very popular.
The Quick page label will appear in the context menu when you long press a link on Chrome 85 Beta for Android. Deployment has only just begun, but you can manually enable it by going to chrome: // flags and enabling “Context menu performance information and remote index fetching”. Google is hoping the wording can help users with slow or spotty connections by giving them the information they need to choose which page to open from all the search results they get. The tech giant said it may experiment with labeling in other parts of Chrome’s user interface in the future as well.
