Chromium Edge supports Chrome themes! Here's how to install them

[ad_1]

Microsoft finally released the first versions of Chrome-based Edge and it's better than expected. Microsoft has managed to perfectly integrate Chromium and made Edge even better.

One of the benefits of using Chromium infrastructure is access to the Chrome Web Store. Google is full of themes and extensions on the Chrome Web Store and Edge users can finally take advantage of it. We've already explained how you can install Chrome extensions on Edge. The installation process of extensions is quite simple, but it is not the case for the installation of themes. We tried to simplify the process for you. You can follow the steps below to install Chromium-based Edge themes.

  • On Microsoft Edge, click menu> Extensions, enable "Allow extensions from other stores".
  • Now visit the "Get CRX" extension page and add the extension.

  • Now go to the themes section available for Chrome here.
  • Navigate to a theme page (note the theme ID as it will be needed when uninstalling the theme), right-click on "Add to Chrome" and select "Get CRX of this extension ".

  • Click the "Save" button to download the CRX theme file to the computer.
  • Once done, go to the edge: // extensions page and drag the CRX file.
  • This will cause Edge to issue a warning that "Extensions, applications, and themes can damage your computer," click Confirm.

  • Edge will now ask to install the theme. Click on "Add a theme" to install it.

Here is! This should help you get your favorite theme on Chrome-based Microsoft Edge. If you are not satisfied, you can head down below to uninstall the theme.

  • Open Edge and type edge: // version in the address bar.

  • Copy the profile path and close the Edge browser. The profile paths for Canary Edge are: ": C: Users AppData Local Microsoft Edge SxS User Data Default "and for Dev Edge is:" C: Users AppData Local Microsoft Edge Dev User Data Default ".
  • Depending on the version of the Edge (dev or canary), paste its path in the Explorer window or in the Run dialog box, and then press Enter.
  • Now locate the preferences file and open it with Notepad / Notepad ++.

  • In the preferences file, locate the theme ID that you saved while installing the theme, delete it (keep the quotation marks). The identifier of the theme should be just after "theme": {"id": in the file.

  • Finally, save the changes to the file and restart Microsoft Edge to see the default theme.

We hope this tutorial will help you install and uninstall themes from the Chrome Web Store. Do you have favorite themes? Share with us in the comments section below.
