SYFY Child’s play TV shows Chucky has released a new teaser for its upcoming trailer, giving fans the first official look at the show’s completed footage. Chucky is the continuation of Child’s play series of films, which kept the franchise alive for years (mostly in the form of home video releases) before Sony rebooted the Child’s play films in 2019. Now, Child’s play creator Don Mancini brought his version of the franchise to television, and fans are thrilled that Chucky will retain the series’ original kitsch and charm, with longtime veterans like Brad Dourif (Chucky) and Jennifer Tilly (Tiffany) all returning for the TV adaptation.
The official synopsis of the Chucky The TV series reads: “After a vintage Chucky doll shows up at a suburban garage sale, an idyllic American town is plunged into chaos as a series of gruesome murders begin to expose hypocrisies and the secrets of the city. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s Past threatens to expose the truth behind the murders, as well as the demonic doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who is sort of become this notorious monster. “
This first teaser for Chucky Clearly sets up the storyline where an unsuspecting boy gets a Chucky doll at a yard sale – plus plenty of sizzling reel footage of how Chucky begins to slaughter the townspeople of the suburban town. As for how Chucky got there, well, the most recent film in the Mancini saga (Cult of Chucky in 2017) opened a whole new door to franchise mythology.
At the end of Cult of Chucky, Chucky / Charles Lee Ray extended his mystical abilities to spread his evil soul in several Chucky dolls, as well as human bodies. Chucky eventually possessed Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) and escaped the mental asylum as Nica and doll, leaving with Tiffany, who is also revealed to exist in human and doll form.
Cult of Chucky has now opened the door for years of Chucky stories to be told in any strain Don Mancini chooses. the Chucky TV series could hold up with years of seasonal anthology-style stories on Chucky in different bodies and sets, while advancing the serialized mythology that Mancini created in the movies.
“It’s so important to give Chucky new weapons, new strategies and new targets, new goals,” Mancini said previously in an interview. “Chucky has a different focus on the TV show than he has ever had before and it’s specifically something that’s designed to evoke something that’s happening in the air today.”
Chucky premieres this fall on SYFY and USA Network.
