Cincinnati has ‘tough and wicked’ plans in store for Georgia at Peach Bowl

ATHENS – Cincinnati football can’t wait to step into the ring and prove itself against SEC mainstay Georgia.

.I think we’re all guys who always have chips on our shoulders, (and) we want to go out there and fight, ”Bearcats defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman said this week.

“It’s not a charity event for us. We are not here to go there and enjoy the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. We are here to go out and win a football game. We prepare ourselves. We’ve got a whole bunch of guys with this mentality, we’re going to prep their butt for the next couple of days, go out there on Friday and swing as hard as we can.

The No.9-seeded Bulldogs (7-2) are a touchdown favorite over the No.8-seeded Bearcats, who enter today’s noon showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the intention of proving they belonged to the college football qualifiers.

“I think it would mean a lot to us if we were to beat Georgia,” Cincinnati All-American cornerback Ahmad Gardner said. “That would put us, like, on the map. Do you know what I’m saying? All over the country, all the scouts and scouts and things, they’ll know we’ve got, what it took to beat this team.

Bearcats linebacker Joel Dublanko said he and his teammates were ready to get tough on the Bulldogs, who come into the game with eight players who started the games with injuries and withdrawals.

“The style of football that we are proud of is tough and mean,” said Dublanko. “We will play that mark against a team like Georgia.”

Gadner, who is from Martin Luther King High School in Detroit, agreed.

The first thing is I think we’re tougher than a lot of Power 5 teams across the country, ”Gardner said. “We are working very hard.”

Georgia struggled against teams that managed to get physical with them, especially at the line of scrimmage in losses to Alabama and Florida, and a 14-3 win over Kentucky.

In Cincinnati, coach Kirby Smart’s team will face perhaps the most inspired team they’ve fielded of all season.

“In the last hundred years we’ve only had two chances to play games like this,” said safety Darrick Forrest, a safety test from Columbus, Ohio. “We have to make the most of our opportunities. I feel like everyone wants to make the most of this opportunity. There are still things that are like in our back pocket.

“Of course we have to go out there and get it for our program, for our city, just for everyone. “
