Lawyers representing a woman who was raped in a state of disability and who later gave birth in a Phoenix clinic filed a $ 45 million claim against the state.
The victim, age 29, may have been pregnant before a meeting that led to her delivery in December, according to the Associated Press.
Nathan Sutherland, 37, a former employee of Hacienda Healthcare, a long-term care facility, pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual abuse and abuse against a vulnerable adult. Its DNA corresponds to that of the newborn, said investigators.
This baby is cared for by the woman's family, who has been in long-term care since she nearly drowned at age 3.
The application is seeking a settlement of $ 25 million for the victim and $ 10 million for each of the woman's parents within 60 days, otherwise the case will be brought to court, reported the court. ; AP.
The medical records cited in the complaint allege that the woman was "repeatedly raped" while she was living in Hacienda. A doctor present on the day of delivery stated that she could have been pregnant before.
